My approach to critical reading has developed over the course of this class. Before I just read and highlighted some areas not making many notes. Now when I read actively I make sure to be paying close attention to the text and really thinking about what I am reading. I usually take a highlighter with me and highlight any areas that I think are important points. I detect important points based on the thesis statement of a piece, so anything that can be related back to the thesis statement can be a strong argument in the text. I will also highlight any areas that I have questions about, things that strike me as odd or I am curious about. Asking questions while reading is a good way to engage with the text. I also high light areas that I feel I can relate to so that way I can feel more included in the text and have a better understanding. With all my highlights, I will try to leave some sort of note as to why I highlighted this area and why it is important, or the question I have on it so I can go back to the text later and know how I was interacting with it.
