In my peer review process I try to look that the global issues that Professor Miller recommended to us when doing our first peer review. I always evaluate the thesis statement first so I know what the essay is going to be about and what main points I should be paying attention to throughout the essay. For example, in the peer review I did for Courtney on project 2, I offered some feedback on her thesis statement. It was very unclear and hard to find in her essay, and I offered some suggestions on how to elaborate on it to make it stronger and tie her piece together. I also pay attention to the quotes used and there analysis in the body paragraphs. I look to make sure that there is sufficient evidence following each quote to explain why the quotes backs up the point or argument being made. I also look to make sure that all of the points made tie back to the thesis statement. It is important to say why a quote helps to explain your point, but it is also important to elaborate on how you point is relevant to the overall claim of your essay. In Courtney’s essay, she was using good quotes but only brushing the surface of her analyses. I encouraged her to think deeper about why what she saying really matters and tie it back to her thesis statement.
